Café Iris Gourmet Foods began in 1996 as Louisville's Best Desserts, a dessertery that the founder, Bob Clark, started from his life-long passion for food. Based on the popularity of his scrumptious, from-scratch desserts, it wasn't long before he was adding soups, salads, and sandwiches. As a result, the dessertery evolved into Café Iris, which soon became a favorite lunch spot. A few years later, based on the popularity of his recipes, Bob expanded Café Iris into a full service upscale restaurant with an eclectic lunch and dinner menu.
Customers began taking some of his popular soups, dressings, chili, and sauces home in carryout containers. Eventually they convinced Bob to package them for take-home and also to share with friends and family as gifts. These products were initially sold only in the restaurant, but became so well known that local stores started carrying them. Over the years several other popular items were added. Bob eventually sold the restaurant, but retained his expanding Café Iris Gourmet Foods line.

They were created by Bob and perfected based on input from the restaurant customers. All of them are vegetarian and either low fat or fat free as well as all natural. The Raspberry and Strawberry Vinaigrette dressings begin with whole fruit and honey, making them distinctively rich and flavorful. The Asian, Orange-Ginger, and Pomegranate Vinaigrettes are unique to Café Iris Gourmet Foods. The hearty Tomato-Basil soup has more texture and flavor than any store brand. Most say that it's the best tomato soup they ever had! The Minestrone and Chili are both chunky and have lots of flavor. |
